Über ball-b

ball-b entwickelt Köderschutzboxen für die gesetzeskonforme Schädlingsbekämpfung in Kanälen und an der Oberfläche. Durch den Einsatz dieser Boxen wird der Rattengifteintrag in die Umwelt stark reduziert und gelangt somit nicht ins Grundwasser. Die Boxen von ball-b sind mit Sensoren ausgestattet, die Schädlingsbesuche erkennen und via verschiedenen Funktechnologien (DECT ULE, LoRaWAN, NB-IoT) an das Backend zur Analyse versenden. So können Schädlingsbewegungen vor und nach Köder- und Gifteinsatz beobachtet werden.

The ball-b WebService

The ball-b WebService was developed by us and is the control center of the system. The web-based application manages installation sites and bait protection boxes, operates the bait management and provides a deeper insight into the data collected. Hundreds of customers manage several thousand installation locations and boxes there.

IoT at ball-b: LoRaWAN and NB-IoT

Depending on the customer’s infrastructure, NB-IoT or LoRaWAN is used to transmit the measured data from the bait boxes. The usage data is sent to the local gateways using a redundant protocol developed by ball-b and then forwarded to the web service, which interprets and stores the data.

Provisioning in the LNS is fully automatic and covers the major providers (TTN, Chirpstack, Zenner), for each of which a separate implementation has been developed.

Perfect server infrastructure

The entire ball-b project is based on several services that are connected to each other via interfaces. Each service is hosted on our high-performance and highly available servers, so that the response times of the individual services are kept to a minimum.

For example, separate middleware was developed for communication with the external radio technologies and interfaces, which receives data from the mobile networks via VPN connections and forwards it to the web service.

Full stack development

From the native Android app to the REST interfaces to the backend with visualizations, data, automated processes and hosting, we at ball-b cover the entire technology stack.

Redundantly available

Data loss due to server unavailability or reception problems with mobile devices in the field must be avoided for sensitive data. At ball-b, we therefore rely on an intelligent synchronization process for the apps and a jointly developed data protocol in the IoT area that prevents data loss and always stores data redundantly.

Reader App

To manage the bait protection boxes on site, ball-b’s customers use an app developed by us that enables provisioning, readout, bait management, installation/removal and battery replacement. In addition to normal smartphones, the app also supports special DECT ULE devices from ball-b and implements the corresponding hardware-related protocols there.

Billing system and packages

Customers can dynamically book various feature packages that are billed monthly. We create an invoice fully automatically based on the booked packages and services and send it directly to the customer. Without any manual work, with internal exports directly into the respective ERP system.

The most important prerequisite for us was trust from all project partners, including CORTEX. This trust was rewarded with honesty and professional competence.
